Storage Pinner Health and Safety Policy
This Health and Safety Policy sets out the principles and procedures adopted by Storage Pinner to protect the health, safety and welfare of our employees, contractors, customers and visitors. It applies to all activities carried out by Storage Pinner, including removals, handling and transportation of goods, storage operations, office functions and any work undertaken on client premises.
Our aim is to prevent injury and ill health, comply with all applicable health and safety legislation, and promote a positive safety culture throughout our organisation and service area.
Management Responsibility and Commitment
Senior management at Storage Pinner accepts overall responsibility for health and safety performance. Management will provide the leadership, time and resources necessary to implement this policy and to maintain safe working conditions across all locations and during all removal and storage activities.
Management responsibilities include setting clear safety objectives, reviewing performance regularly, ensuring that suitable risk assessments are carried out, and making sure that all employees understand and follow this policy. This policy will be reviewed periodically and whenever there are significant changes to our operations, legislation or best practice.
Employee Responsibilities
Every employee of Storage Pinner has a duty to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of other people who may be affected by their actions or omissions. All staff must cooperate fully with management and supervisors in implementing safe systems of work and following site rules, instructions and training.
Employees must use equipment correctly, report hazards, incidents and near misses promptly, and refrain from any behaviour that could put themselves or others at risk. Staff are encouraged to raise safety concerns or suggestions for improvement without fear of criticism or reprisal.
Risk Assessment and Safe Systems of Work
Storage Pinner identifies, assesses and manages risks arising from our activities, including but not limited to lifting and handling, loading and unloading vehicles, working in and around storage units, movement of vehicles, use of equipment and work on customer premises.
Suitable and proportionate risk assessments are undertaken, and control measures are implemented, such as safe working procedures, use of appropriate equipment, signage, supervision and staff training. Risk assessments are reviewed regularly and when changes occur in our working methods, equipment, premises or the nature of the work we undertake.
Manual Handling and Lifting Operations
Manual handling is a key part of removal and storage operations. Storage Pinner is committed to reducing the risk of injury from lifting, carrying and moving loads. Wherever reasonably practicable, mechanical aids such as trolleys, barrows or lifting equipment will be used to minimise the physical strain on staff.
All employees involved in manual handling receive appropriate training in safe lifting techniques, team lifting, assessment of load weight and shape, and the use of handling aids. Loads will be planned and, where possible, broken down into manageable sizes to reduce the risk of musculoskeletal injury.
Vehicles, Driving and Road Safety
Safe operation of vehicles is essential to our removal and storage services. Only authorised and competent drivers may operate company vehicles. Vehicles are maintained according to manufacturers guidance and relevant legal requirements.
Drivers must carry out basic safety checks before use, comply with speed limits and road traffic legislation, and follow company rules on loading practices, securing of loads, route planning and driver fatigue. Parking, reversing and manoeuvring at storage sites and customer premises must be done safely, using guidance from colleagues when necessary to protect pedestrians and property.
Workplace Safety and Visitor Protection
Storage Pinner aims to maintain safe and orderly workplaces, including storage areas, loading bays, walkways, offices and any temporary work locations. Good housekeeping standards will be maintained to reduce slips, trips and falls and to keep access routes clear.
Visitors and customers entering operational areas will be supervised where appropriate and provided with any necessary safety information. Clear signage and instructions will be used to direct visitors safely around our premises and to highlight any restricted or high risk areas.
Equipment, Maintenance and Personal Protective Equipment
All tools, machinery and handling equipment used by Storage Pinner will be suitable for their intended purpose, maintained in safe working order and inspected at intervals appropriate to their use and risk level. Faulty or damaged equipment will be taken out of service until repaired or replaced.
Where risks cannot be adequately controlled by other means, suitable personal protective equipment will be provided, such as gloves, safety footwear or high visibility clothing. Employees must use the protective equipment as instructed and report any defects or concerns immediately.
Training, Supervision and Competence
Storage Pinner recognises that proper training and supervision are essential for effective health and safety management. All new employees receive an induction that covers relevant safety rules, emergency procedures, incident reporting and safe working practices for their role.
Additional role-specific training is provided for tasks such as manual handling, vehicle operation, use of equipment and working on customer sites. Supervisors are responsible for monitoring compliance with safe systems of work, providing guidance and support, and identifying any need for refresher training.
Health, Welfare and Wellbeing
We are committed to promoting the general health and welfare of employees. Adequate welfare facilities such as rest areas and toilets will be provided and maintained. Reasonable steps will be taken to identify and address work-related stress, excessive fatigue or other factors that could affect physical or mental wellbeing.
Where work may expose employees to specific health risks, suitable control measures and health surveillance will be considered as part of the risk assessment process.
Emergency Preparedness and Accident Reporting
Storage Pinner maintains procedures for dealing with emergencies, including fire, serious accidents and other incidents that may arise in our storage facilities, vehicles or customer premises. Employees receive instruction on what to do in an emergency, including evacuation routes, assembly points and how to contact the appropriate services.
All accidents, incidents, near misses and hazardous conditions must be reported promptly so they can be investigated and corrective actions taken. Records of incidents are kept and reviewed to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
Continuous Improvement
Health and safety is a core part of Storage Pinner operations and business planning. We are committed to continuous improvement through regular monitoring, audits, inspections and consultation with employees.
By maintaining this policy and the associated procedures, Storage Pinner aims to provide a safe and healthy environment for all staff, customers, contractors and visitors, and to deliver removal and storage services in a safe, responsible and professional manner.
